Sorry, I have been so slow in posting to our blog. I have been working on our Moodle site and have had a hard time splitting my time between the two. I hope you will visit and look around at some of the exciting things Moodle has to offer. From time to time students will have assignments to do online. There are also extra practice pages for parents to print out and students to work at home. I have also attached many weblinks that address certain 3rd grade concepts. Please let me know how you like the site, and I will be glad to look at any suggestions you have that would add to the site, as well as any links you think would be helpful that can be added.

Homework

Spelling - Students took a pretest today. They need to write off any words missed 5 times each and complete the back of today's work.

Math - Students need to complete handouts started in class. They include adding and subtracting fractions with mixed numbers and using algebra to find volume.

Social Studies - Student will have a social studies test on Wednesday this week. A study guide for history and vocabulary went home today. They were told to take their notes and the handouts to study tonight and Tuesday night prior to the test.

Spelling - Students have the last page in their spelling packet to complete and any words missed on today's pretest needs to be written off 10 times each. Test tomorrow morning before we leave.

Thanks to all parents who attended our Valentine Party to help out and those that sent goodies for the class. Thank you all for being sooooo good to our children. They had a great time and what a beautiful day to enjoy outside this afternoon.

Tomorrow we will be going to the IMax theater in Chattanooga. It should be a great trip. We plan to leave at 9:30 and should be there sometime around 10:15. After the show, if weather permits, we will go to the park for lunch and a bit of play time before coming back to Dug Gap by 2:00.

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Winter Break . Enjoy time with your family.

Spelling - Students have the next page in their spelling packets to complete.

Math - Workbook page 108 covering symmetry. Students also have a handout 17.3 covering problem solving and 17.4 over symmetry.

Just a reminder. We have a field trip Friday to the IMax Theater in Chattanooga. The class will also have a small Valentine party Thursday afternoon at 1:30. Students can exchange Valentine cards and we will be having a snack.

Spelling - Students have a spelling handout. Only one side is required to complete (student's choice of side). They also have words to write off (10 times each) for any words missed on today's pretest.

Math - Student have 2 handouts and a workbook page. These should not be hard or take a lot of time to complete. They need to be able to identify equilaterial, isosceles, and scalene triangles, as well as identifying right, obtuse, and acute triangles.

They will have a short math test tomorrow.

Science - TEST tomorrow.

Lanaguage Arts - TEST tomorrow.

Reading - Open book test with writing component and possible extra points for good complete information.

Math - Test tomorrow covering estimating quotients, dividing multiples of 10, 1 digit quotients, calendar measurement, elapsed time, and temperature.

Social Studies - Test covering Dutch and French Colonies and the geography and regions of the Thirteen Colonies. Study guide was sent home today covering this weeks material to insure that all student have notes to study if their personal notes are not complete.

Spelling - Students need to write each word missed on their pretest 5 times each and complete page 50 in their spelling packet.

Reading - Vocabulary words are in student folders that will be on this week's test. Please have your child review these words. Some new words seemed particularly difficult for many in the class.

Math - Students need to complete page 67, 12 - 27, and page 68, numbers 10 - 23 for homework. This is over, dividing multiples of 10 and estimation of quotients. The top portion of each page was completed in class, and most students did well with both concepts. Students also have a handout of reading a calendar that needs to be completed tonight.

Social Studies - There is no homework for tonight, but students have notes over Dutch and French settlements that needs to be studied this week along with vocabulary words. There will be a test on Friday.

Math - Math test tomorrow over division, word problems, prime and composite numbers.

Reading - Reading test tomorrow over Melvin in the Big Woods. This is a short test over the reading passage we have had this week. Remind your child of the writing component and that bonus points are given for good compete answers and telling more than the question asks about the story.

Language - Test tomorrow.

Social Studies - Students are asked to study their lines for the play, Squanto.

Spelling - Students need to complete the back of today's pretest and write any words missed off 5 times each.

Math - Multiples and Factors - pg. 62, numbers 1 - 8. Students do not have a table to use, but are using what they know about factors of each of the numbers given. They should also complete numbers 11 and 12 at the bottom of the page. On the opposite side of this is pg 61. Most students finished this page, however if your child did not, they need to complete at least numbers 1 - 8 and the problem solving at the bottom of the page numbers 17 and 18.

Social Studies - Fourth grade is having a small play next Monday. Students need to practice their parts in the play. Those that do not have speaking parts, still need to read over the play to think about the props that are needed.

Spelling - Students are to complete the back of today's pretest and to write off any words missed 5 times each for tomorrow.

Math - Students are to compete the rest of today's math page 9.2, pg 57. The numbers are getting much bigger as we become more comfortable with long division. All help with student homework and better understanding is appreciated. Students also have a multiplication fact sheet to complete.

Please have your child study their multiplication tables. This is very important as the division becomes longer and harder.

Math - Students need to complete a division pape, front and back, on page 8.4. All are becoming more "friendly" with the division process and steps involved, but it is a hard concept and help at home is needed. Thank you!

Science - Students have a science test in Mrs. Ciliberto's room tomorrow. They are to study notes and vocabulary.

Tonight for homework, students are to complete page 8.2 in math. This is more of our introduction to division. Please work with your student at home to help them with this. Most students are doing well, however it can become confusing as numbers become larger. Students also have spelling homework tonight. A few students need to complete science work using colored pencils. Please ask your child if they need to finish work needed for Mrs. Ciliberto.

Fourth grade has been studying the Presidential candidates this week along with the requirements and responsibility that goes with that office. Please ask your child which candidate they are researching and what new information they have learned this week. We will be voting in class and following other voting of students in the US over the next few days.

Math - Homework page 8.1 - Model Division
Students need to complete the handout of modeled division. They do not have to draw the model if they choose not to, but it does allow them a very good visual of the process division follows.

Spelling - Students also have to complete page 34 of the spelling packet. They also need to write off any words missed 5 times each. The test this week is of homophones. It is very tricky, so please go over the correct usage of each of the words with their spelling.
